What is the ICT OTE?

The Optimal Trade Entry (OTE) is a Fibonacci retracement zone used within the ICT Trading methodology to time entries after a confirmed displacement move. When price displaces strongly from a swing low (bullish) or swing high (bearish), it rarely continues without first retracing to offer traders a position at value. The OTE defines where that value zone sits: between the 61.8% and 78.6% Fibonacci retracements of the displacement, with the 70.5% level as the ideal entry point.
The OTE does not work in isolation. It must be used within the correct daily bias, during a kill zone window, and with a CHoCH or BOS confirming the directional intent before a retracement entry is considered. An OTE inside an Order Block or Fair Value Gap that also sits in the discount zone of the dealing range is the highest-confidence version of the setup.

How to use this calculator

01
Identify a displacement move on your entry timeframeA displacement is a strong, fast candle sequence that moves away from a liquidity pool after a sweep. Mark the origin (swing low for bullish, swing high for bearish) and the end of the displacement.
02
Enter the swing high and swing lowFor a bullish OTE, the swing low is the origin and the swing high is the peak of the displacement. For a bearish OTE, reverse the direction. The calculator handles both — select your direction first.
03
Wait for price to retrace into the 61.8–78.6% zoneDo not enter at the first touch. Watch for a Fair Value Gap or Order Block within the OTE zone that provides a specific entry trigger. The OTE defines the zone — the PD array tool inside it defines the entry.
04
Set stop beyond the 100% levelA candle close beyond the full swing extreme invalidates the displacement. The stop sits just below the swing low (bullish) or above the swing high (bearish) — outside the 100% level shown in the calculator.
05
Only use the OTE within a confirmed kill zone and daily biasThe OTE is a precision entry tool, not a standalone strategy. It must align with your daily bias, occur during a kill zone, and follow a CHoCH confirmation. Without these three filters, the retracement is not an OTE — it is just a pullback.
